Grow old with me! The best is yet to be. ~ Robert Browning

Love is a process, not just a feeling. It produces action. Being married is no different.

Hello, I’m Corey Allan (if you want to be formal it’s Dr. Corey Allan, but I’m pretty informal here) and I’m glad you’ve stopped by. I’m a husband, father, author, speaker, as well as a Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Ph.D. in Family Therapy.

What’s SMR Nation (and my private practice) all about?

It’s two aspects specifically, articles and a podcast.

The main belief  – life is choice (so is marriage). Therefore I choose to:

  1. Grow deeper Spiritually
  2. Keep it simple
  3. Be passionate
  4. Live in community with others
  5. Enjoy the ride

Marriage is more about becoming a better human than it is about the two people being happy. And when you keep things simple, you can experience more in marriage and life.

While most anyone can enjoy the ideas and thoughts expressed here, SMR’s target is: individuals involved in a committed relationship that wish to experience more passion and adventure in life and relationships.

That is what marriage really means: helping one another to reach the full status of being persons, responsible and autonomous beings who do not run away from life. ~ Paul Tournier

SMR also has a collection of other writers who add their take on marriage and family life, as well as their skills to our community.

As for me, I’ve been married to my wife for 29 years and we have 2 children.

We are also followers of Christ and believe that a vibrant and alive Christian marriage is vital to the world and God’s Kingdom. While this is not a blog about my theology, much of my beliefs and perspectives are shaped by my relationship with Christ and other believers so this will come out in some of my writing.

Feel free to contact me with any suggestions, questions, ideas, criticism, or if you feel like complaining about anything in your life. Thanks for checking us out.

For a marriage relationship to flourish, there must be intimacy. It takes an enormous amount of courage to say to your spouse,  “This is me. I’m not proud of it — in fact, I’m a little embarrassed by it — but this is who I am. ~ Bill Hybels

Dr. Corey Allan (Founder)

October 12, 2011 is the day Sexy Marriage Radio hit the podcast airwaves – and little did I know the impact and reach it would have.
There are two main ideas the drive everything I do:
Marriage is more about becoming a better human than it is about the two people being happy. And when you keep things simple, you can experience more in marriage and life.

This is true for all aspect of marriage, including sex.
Keep it simple, relax, enjoy, and let go!
Who knows, you may surprise yourself … and your spouse.
This quote sums up life as a man for me:

The true man wants two things; danger and play. For that reason he wants a woman, as the most dangerous plaything. ~ Friedrich W. Nietzsche

As for me, I’ve been married to my wife for 25 years and we have 2 children.
Currently my wife Pam is my primary co-host. Plus a weekly show where different guest experts join in the conversation.
There have been some other ladies who’ve been vitally important to the success of Sexy Marriage Radio.

Shannon Ethridge (Episodes #107 – #311)

Shannon is a million-copy best-selling author, international speaker, certified life coach, and advocate for healthy sexuality with a master’s degree in counseling/human relations from Liberty University. She seeks to:

  • Challenge adults and teens to embrace a life of sexual integrity,
  • Encourage married couples in their pursuit of sexual and emotional fulfillment,
  • Counsel women who have looked for love in all the wrong places and
  • Equip parents to instill sexual values in children at an early age.

Her passion for healthy sexuality actually began in Mortuary College. Her first career choice, becoming a mortician, led her to work on dead bodies. Many she embalmed were young people who had died from AIDS or committed suicide as a result of an HIV positive diagnosis. Because of her own promiscuous teenage years, she knew it was a miracle that she was standing over the embalming table rather than laying on top of it.
These experiences inspired her to begin speaking boldly and bluntly to teen, college-age, and adult audiences about the benefits of sexual integrity. She has taught and counseled thousands of young singles and married couples over two decades. She is the author of 22 books, including the best-selling Every Woman’s Battle series, the 5-book Completely His series, The Sexually Confident Wife, The Fantasy Fallacy: Exposing the Deeper Meaning Behind Sexual Thoughts, and The Passion Principles: Celebrating Sexual Freedom in Marriage.

Gina was part of building the foundation to what SMR has become today.
